New York's attorney general described a $7.4 billion Purdue and Sackler settlement, with Sackler contributions of up to $6.5 billion over 15 years and a roughly $900 million Purdue contribution. A separate announcement that every state had joined described expected initial payments subject to approval.
The useful research question is how headline commitments translate into resources communities can actually spend. Nominal totals, payment timing, approval conditions and distributions to recipients are different quantities. Comparing the full headline amount with one year's local receipts would be misleading.
